Book Blurb:

Life as I knew it ended the day I accepted my fate.

In its place is an existence even the wildest imagination could never fathom. Strange creatures walk among us, plotting our demise, and I’ve come to find that the fate of our world rests squarely on my shoulders. We’re all in danger and I’m trying to figure out how to make it through each day. The key to my survival is a man I can’t figure out. As dangerous as the darkest fae, I have no choice but to work with him to stop the prophecy that’s foretold to be the ruination of mankind. Carrick Byrne continues to be my only source of information, but he doles it out as he sees fit. He intrigues and scares me in equal measure, yet I can’t help but be attracted to him. And the more I discover about him, the more it becomes clear he feels the same. As we travel to Faere in search of answers, we find that every piece of information leads to more questions, that every question leads to a new piece of the puzzle, and that, most importantly, no one can be trusted. The more secrets we uncover, one thing is certain— if we have any chance of saving the world, we have to do it together. A Discovery of Secrets and Fate is book two of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.

“Maybe,” Carrick murmurs, but there’s a biting edge to it. “Just maybe, I didn’t like him touching you.”

“Why?” I manage a whisper.

Carrick’s head dips lower, tilts to the side, and his lips hover right over mine so that when he speaks, I feel his breath. He stares at me, eyes hard and resolute before they drop to my mouth. “Maybe I’m just feeling proprietary.”

I’d jerk my head back from him if the wall weren’t trapping me, so my tone is more than scathing enough to get I don’t like his wording. “You mean… like you own me?”

There’s just a flash of amused smile before Carrick brushes his lips over mine. It’s soft, so subtle, and yet the absolute best kiss I’ve ever had in my life. But then his lips are gone, leaving behind a faint tingle. My skin prickles when I feel his mouth grazing across my jaw, light as a feather.

My eyes flutter shut as I savor the feel of him touching me in a way that is far beyond the boundaries we have set. My heart pounds, my blood races, and I feel like my legs won’t support me, so I press my hands into the wall and dig my heels down into the rug. He’s barely touching me, yet I ache with such deep need I’m afraid I’ll be devastated if it’s not filled.

Carrick reaches my ear where I feel his warm breath, then the butterfly touch of his lips as he murmurs, “You’re not the type of woman who could ever be owned, Finley.”

EXCERPT

I lead her through the cabin.
“There’s only one bed,” she says.
“Yeah, but it's big enough for two.”
“You can’t be serious.”
She tries to look mortified. But I can see the heat in her eyes.
“Oh, I’m serious.”
“Can’t you take the couch or something?”
“Why, when the bed is big enough for the both of us?” I cock an eyebrow at her. “Or are you worried you won’t be able to keep your hands to yourself?”
Indignation replaces her look of horror and she raises her eyebrow. “Oh, I assure you that isn’t the case.”
I sit down on the bed and pat the space beside me, grinning wickedly at her.
While she stands across the room and murders me with her eyes. “I’ll take the couch."
I shrug. “Suit yourself.”
She folds her arms. “You’d seriously make me sleep on the couch. So much for chivalry.”
“I’m not making you do anything.” I pat the bed again. “There’s plenty of room.”
Her arms fall to her sides as she gives in. “Fine. But I’m building a giant pillow wall between us.”
I can’t help myself and laugh. For something so little, she sure has a lot of spunk.
I stand up and take a step toward her.
“Knock yourself out. But look at me, darlin’, I’m a big man. You should know I can huff and I can puff, and I can blow that giant pillow wall down.”
My voice is gravelly. Rough. And flowing with the lust I’m feeling coiled in my belly. The push and pull between us is turning me on, and I’m aching to give in to the hunger and take her mouth with mine.
Again, her throat works hard as she struggles to swallow.
Yeah, she’s turned on. Mortified, yes, but turned on, nevertheless.
Her eyes sharpen. “You should know, I’m a light sleeper and did martial arts for six years.”
“Good, I like it rough.”
She raises her chin. “Don’t be fooled by my size. I may be small, but I can kick ass.”
“Rougher the better.”
It is a war of wills now. And it’s making me fucking hard.
“I know what part of the body to aim for to cause the most impact.”
I take a sweeping look up and down her beautiful body. “Ditto.”
Her jaw tightens. “I’ll escape while you’re sleeping.”
“Maybe I’ll tie you to the bed.”
She gasps. “You wouldn’t dare!”
I’m not sure why, or how, or what the fuck is happening, but before I can get any understanding of the situation, I back her up toward the bed and she has no choice but to sit down. She looks up at me, her eyes blazing.
And in that second, I know without a doubt I am going to tie her to my bed.

The Dream (The Creek Water, #4) by Whitney Dineen

The Dream
Whitney Dineen
(The Creek Water Series #4)
Publication date: June 21st 2020
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Romance

Ashley has loved the same boy since high school. She knew Davis Frothingham was special even before he championed her at her senior prom. She also knew he was completely out of her league.
Years later, her attraction for him is still there, but Davis? He doesn’t even remember her.
When Ashley is tasked with being the nurse for Davis’ terminally ill grandmother, she’s thrown back into his world. More than anything, she wants him to remember her, but that recollection could come at a price of its own.
Can Ashley accept that she’s good enough for Davis? And can Davis learn to love a girl from the wrong side of the tracks?
Find out in this delightfully fun romcom about love and life in Creek Water, Missouri!
EXCERPT:
“Do you have a boyfriend?”
I don’t meet his eyes. “No.”
“Why not?” he wants to know.
“Do you have a girlfriend?” I retaliate.
“I don’t.”
“Why not?”
“Point taken,” he concedes.
We’re sitting and staring at each other when Davis puts his hand on mine. He clears his throat in preparation to speak. A wave of anticipation washes over me, and I subconsciously hold my breath like I’m deep sea diving without an oxygen tank.
He’s probably not going to say, “Ashley, I’ve known who you were since the moment I saw you in the nursing home. I’ve secretly loved you since high school and wanted more than anything to tell you the depth of my feelings ever since, but I was afraid you’d turn me down.”
I’m fully aware I’m having some kind of mental break here, so you’re just gonna have to bear with me. I’m pretty sure he isn’t going to declare, “You’re the woman of my dreams and I long to hold you in my arms until the end of time.”
Chances are he won’t conclude this imaginary monologue by picking me up and carrying me out of the restaurant so he can take me to his house and ravish me. But the bottom line is that we’ll never know because just as he opens his mouth, a voice behind me says, “Davis Frothingham? My heavens, how long has it been? You look positively wonderful!”
Davis’s eyes move upward as he sees my unwelcome ghost from adolescence past. “Jessica. I didn’t know you were back in town. Are you visiting for long?”
“No, sir.” I can hear the interest in her tone as clear as day. “I just moved back to Creek Water. I thought for sure Beau would have told you.”
If Beau is involved, that probably means she’s buying a house, which would mean she’s not planning anything temporary. Crap. Why the heck is everyone coming back?
“Welcome home,” he tells her. Then he motions toward me. “This is …”
But before he can say my name, she looks at me and declares, “Oh hey, it’s you, from the bathroom!” She’s as excited as if I were a long-lost sorority sister.
“Hey,” I somehow manage while my throat constricts in terror. The Jessica Holt I know from high school would full on poop a brick if she knew she was being nice to FelAshleyO MoanRow. The good news is that Davis never said my name, and Jessica is so self-absorbed she doesn’t seem to care who I am.
The waitress comes over and delivers several plates including the filet, a lobster tail, and a caesar salad. As delicious as everything looks, I’m not sure I’ll be able to eat a bite of it.
“Do y’all work together or something?” Jessica asks once our food is situated. How insulting. She should assume we’re on a date considering our close physical proximity—side-by-side, not across from each other— but the thought doesn’t appear to occur to her.
I let Davis answer the question. “I work alone, carving furniture,” he says, not offering any other explanation.
“That’s right,” Jessica declares. “I have a couple of clients I’d like to send your way. Maybe I can stop by your workshop sometime this week.”
“Sure,” Davis replies. “I’m on the first floor of the Creeky Button Factory. Just ring the bell and I’ll let you in.”
“I can’t wait,” she enthuses. Then much less excitedly, she adds, “I guess I’d better get going. We just finished dinner and my folks are waiting in the car.” She lingers as though Davis might invite her to join us and perhaps even offer to take her home afterward.
I can’t let that happen, so I boldly put my hand on Davis’s arm and announce, “Don’t let us keep you. Have a good night.”
Davis’s mouth turns up at the corners into a lopsided smile like he’s trying to keep from laughing out loud. Then he tells his ex-girlfriend, “It was nice seeing you, Jessica. Have a good night.”
Jessica does not look happy. I want to take out my phone and snap a picture of her, so I can enjoy her expression at my leisure. Being that wouldn’t paint me in the best light, I don’t do it. But oh, boy, if I did, I’d print a hundred copies and hang them all over my trailer.

Blurb

One word was all it took to change everything. For years, Lauren Lawson believed happily ever afters didn’t exist for everyone—especially her. Now a decade after watching the love of her life walk away, he’s back.

Finn Reynolds is determined to win her back, but Lauren is scared. She keeps her feelings locked up to protect her fragile heart from being shattered again. But Finn has a way of getting her to open up—he always has.

Can Lauren leave the past behind and move on to a future where she never lets him go?

Excerpt

Finn steps farther up to me so that our bodies are now touching. He’s so close that I have to look up at him. “It’s just one dance, Lo.”
I look toward the dance floor and pull the corner of my bottom lip between my teeth, contemplating my answer. I’ve never been able to resist Finn Reynolds—why start now? I can hear his voice in my head all the times he said, “C’mon, Lo, just one more…” One more smile, one more minute, one more kiss, one more orgasm. What’s one dance?
I down the rest of the champagne and place the glass back on the bar. I know that my cheeks are flushed—I could easily blame that on the alcohol and not at the idea that I’m about to be in Finn’s arms once again. I turn to face him, holding one finger up. “One dance.”
His smile widens, knowing that he won. Don’t fall for it, Lauren. That smile still seems to make me weak in the knees, and I hate it.”One dance, I promise.”
He extends his hand in my direction. I glance down first as if it were a snake ready to strike. He tries to set me at ease, confirming it’s just one dance. I place my hand in his, and my body comes alive. I never had my body react the way it does with Finn, no matter with all the guys I tried to date to forget about him.
He leads me over to an opening on the dance floor before spinning me and pulling me to his chest.
“Show-off,” I mutter under my breath but loud enough for him to hear me. His deep chuckle vibrates my body with his closeness. I tuck my head into the crook of his neck and close my eyes as he holds me, just like he did for all of those dances in high school I dragged him to.
He holds me tighter as “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers continues to play, and I let him. In fact, I cling to him the same way I did at the airport, clutching to him as if he were my lifeline.
Time stops. We are no longer in a church hall full of a hundred and some guests, but it’s just Finn and me. I don’t care who’s watching us, questions be damned later, as being in his arms just once is worth everything. But is it enough?
The irony isn’t lost on me as I listen to the lyrics. I squeeze my eyes tighter to keep the tears at bay. Nothing compares to the feeling of being in Finn’s arms.
“Lo.” The way he breathes my name fills me with life. His head is resting against the top of mine. I slowly lift my head meeting his gaze. Is he going to kiss me? Do I want him to? I swallow thickly as he closes the distance between us, and I close my eyes. I can feel his breath on my skin. His nose brushes against mine, and my heart is ready to jump out of my chest.
“Lo, I lied. What if I want more than one dance?” His voice just above a whisper, but it screams to my heart. “I miss you.”
My breath catches, and my eyes fly open. I feel as though the room is beginning to close. I can’t do this, especially today of all days. I slowly back away from him, needing the distance now more than ever. My bottom lip quivers, but I refuse to let him see me break.
“I’m sorry, I can’t do this.”
He takes a step toward me, and I keep pacing backward. “Lo, please.”
No. There’s that word again, the one that broke us the first time.
It was only supposed to be one dance. He promised—another broken promise. Finn Reynolds seems to be full of them.
I need to escape. I spin on my heels, leaving a trail of smoke in my path and Finn alone on the dance floor. I should've know...because all those "one mores" always turned into several more.

Excerpt

“You still smell the same, you know. I hate you most days, but I can’t forget how fucking amazing you smelled.” I brush back her hair with my fingertips, and I can’t miss the small tremor that runs through her body. I affect her. This is good, and I plan to use this to my advantage. “Or how good you looked underneath me.” Her chestnut hair still shines like I remember, and I can easily visualize how it looks twisted around my fingers. How her cheeks heated up to a nice pink after I made her come... and don't get me started on her legs looking like sex in these heels and how good they would look wrapped around my neck. Fuck. I'm kidding myself if I say she doesn't affect me and doesn't make my dick hard at the sight of her. Snap out of it Jaxson. Now isn't the time. "Tell me I actually meant nothing to you, and I'll go away."
