A faceless name. That’s all she was when I agreed to play a part in deceiving her. And then the unexpected happened.
We met.
I yearn for her skin against mine. I crave her scent on my body. I want to make her laugh and then moan. And I do… in secret.
I promised my business partner I wouldn’t touch his sister. But I broke that promise.
Our little dirty weekends together are no longer enough. I want my bohemian girl in my bed every night. She wants a ring, marriage vows, and babies … all things that I can’t give her.
Our romance is explosive. Our love, epic. Our ending, miserable… unless I bend.
If I don’t bend, I’ll break.

Two sisters. One unsolved murder. A sickening plot for revenge. When Mackenzie Wright attends her first real high school party, held somewhere deep in the woods of her small California town, no one expects to wake up the next morning to news of a gruesome murder. Especially not her own sister’s. No suspects. No motive. No convictions. Just one unsolved murder and whatever’s left of the now deserted town. Mackenzie has spent years with her sister’s death weighing heavily on her shoulders, but it isn’t until she stumbles across a photograph that changes everything for her. The memories, everything from that night, come flashing back in high-speed technicolor and Mackenzie soon finds herself obsessed with the truth. Determined to find out what really happened to her sister, Mackenzie relies on that one photograph to give her the answers she needs by embedding herself into the lives of five of the wealthiest men in Los Angeles. Consumed by her need for revenge, Mackenzie infiltrates the world of the rich and elite, only to come face-to-face with an alluring complication in the form an elusive playboy. Reese
I’m done.
Getting ditched at the altar is nothing compared to being humiliated there in front of three hundred shocked guests. Apparently I’m no good at spotting the signs your man’s a cheating liar. So I set off solo on my honeymoon to Hawaii, where I realize I’ve got this life thing down just fine on my own.
Friendships and laughter? Yes.
Adventures? Absolutely.
But relationships? Hell no. Never again.
Knox
I’m a man of few words. My reputation as a moody prick is deserved, but only the handful of people who really know me see the man beneath the professional mask.
I’m a protector. A warrior. That part is true. But the world doesn’t get to see the rest of me. And women don’t seem to mind my gruff exterior—my bed’s always warm.
I’m content with life—loving it, even—or so I thought. But when I meet a beautiful pastry chef with a broken heart and a smile that softens me down to my soul, I realize I wasn’t really content at all before her.
I only wish I had the words to let her know.

EXCERPT:

Mrs. Eric Darnell. I’ve practiced saying it and writing it, but it still doesn’t feel real. There’s a part of me that’s still scared, but this is the right thing. After nine years together, where else can our relationship go?
At the sound of a sniffle, I turn to my maid of honor, my best friend Mandy, who’s already crying. I never knew her to be a softie. The ceremony hasn’t really even started yet. She takes a tissue out from around her bouquet and wipes the corners of her eyes.
“Before we begin the ceremony, let us pray,” the pastor says.
“Hang on,” Eric blurts out.
Did he just say hang on as our wedding ceremony was about to start? My heart skips several beats as I look around to see what’s going on. Is there a medical emergency? Why else would Eric go off script?
The pastor and I both stare at him as he closes his eyes and grimaces.
“I’m sorry,” he says, sighing as he opens his eyes and lets go of my hands.
As my hands drop to my sides, an icy shiver zips down my spine. He let go. I only asked him for one thing when we talked on the phone this morning, honoring the tradition of not seeing each other on our wedding day. Hold onto my hands the entire time.
The church is still, everyone seeming to hold their breath as they wait for Eric to speak. My heart races and my hands start to shake as I realize something’s not right here. There’s no medical emergency.
“Reese.” Eric’s tone is both apologetic and pleading. “I need to tell you something. I want to go into this marriage with a clean conscience.”
I swallow back the bile that rises in my throat. This can’t be happening. In all my worst-case scenarios about what could go wrong on my wedding day, I never imagined this.
I worried I’d be having a heavy period today. That I’d trip on my way down the aisle and face plant in front of everyone. Or that the last week of stress eating would catch up with me and my dress wouldn’t zip up.
But this? Never this.
Eric lets out a shaky breath and says, “Please forgive me. I did something so stupid.”
Mandy’s crying intensifies. I feel like I could pass out at any second.
“Uh…” the pastor looks between me and Eric. “Do you two want to step out for a moment?”
“What did you do?” I ask Eric, my voice nearly a whisper.
The sound and scent of the ocean has vanished. I can only feel my racing heart and a creeping sense of complete dread.
“So now it was stupid?” Mandy demands loudly. “Eight months together and you’re saying it was a mistake?”
The guests collectively gasp.
As it sets in, I’m too stunned to even breathe. Eric. Fucked. Mandy. A lot.
My bouquet falls to the ground, making a whooshing sound as it hits. My breathing is more of a pant now, an angry, breathy pant with a growl now surfacing.

Murmur of Love (Texas Solace Series, #1) by Nicole Ann Nielsen

Title: Murmur of Love
Series: Texas Solace Series #1
Author: Nicole Ann Nielsen
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 21, 2019
"A cowboy, a supermodel, and a marriage of convenience.
A recipe for disaster . . . or a Southern fairytale?
Cecelia Carlsen, supermodel, entrepreneur and philanthropist, thrust into an unforeseen situation, returns to a past she thought forever lost to her.
Aidan Lawson, Texas cattle rancher and single father, faced with a renewed custody suit and a struggling ranch, is unsure about the future.
And then she arrives in a private jet, flaunting her mile-long legs, batting her honey eyes at him, and offering a solution to his problems.
But Aidan is a man who abhors lies and secrets.
And Cecelia is a woman shrouded in them."
Cecelia watched with amusement as his footsteps faltered and then stuttered to a stop. The bewilderment on his face when he turned to her brought a giggle to the fore.
“Seriously? You expect me to sleep in . . . on . . . that?” With great reluctance, he turned back and gestured toward the offending item in question.
She twirled past him and hooked an arm around one of the four interwoven, antique iron posts shaped in the form of tree trunks supporting the intricate metal canopy above. She flung her other arm open to indicate her extremely feminine bedroom and whimsical bed, and breezed out, “Welcome to my boudoir.”
She sat down on the white-on-white jacquard bedspread and patted the space next to her. “Despite its fragile appearance, my bed is sturdy, very comfortable, and extra-large, so never fear, you will fit.” She flung her torso back onto the bed, arms stretched above her head, her eyes following the leafy pattern above. “I found it in a darling shop in the South of France five years ago and just had to have it.” Her laugh was light and tinkling, as whimsical as her quirky antique bed.
Aidan’s large presence loomed over her. He supported his weight on extended arms, dipping the mattress beneath her shoulders. Her legs, dangling off the edge of the bed, were pinned between his, and his upper body hovered over hers. Her eyes, sparkling with amusement, met his oh-so-serious gaze.
“It better not find its way to Texas,” he drawled in warning.
Her grin widened. “And if it does? Whatcha gonna do, cowboy?”
“Tie you to those posts with one of the scarves you seem to favor and have my wicked way with you.”
Cecelia’s belly fluttered at the promise of his words, and her brows lifted in response. “In that case, it would behoove me to ensure it finds its way to Texas,” she replied huskily.

Aidan’s eyes widened as her meaning — and what he’d said — sank in. He’d spoken without thought. He groaned as a dull flush crept up his face, and he made a move to straighten. “You scramble my brains.”
Her arms found their way to his neck, stopping his retreat. “I rather like your brains scrambled,” she murmured. Her exploring fingers spread over the shorn hair at his nape, and she tugged him closer, her laughter fading as desire replaced amusement.
“I have many scarves,” Cecelia whispered as his lips hovered over hers, their breaths mingling.
His body lowered as his elbows bent in answer to her pull. He tugged her lower lip between his teeth, eliciting a moan from her, scattering her thoughts.
His teeth released their hold, lips moving closer to her ear. “Does bein’ tied to your bed tickle your fancy, Lily?” he whispered, his lips continuing to kiss a path across her hairline. She’d the power to unleash a racy side in him he’d never known existed.
She moaned, angling her head just so to expose more of her neck. Being a clever man, he followed her invitation, leaving her breathless in the wake of his lips. “You have no idea . . . how tickled my . . . fancy is right now, cowboy.”
He sank lower, eliminating the little space between them. He asserted extra pressure — perfect pressure — aligning all the right body parts. “I think I might’ve some idea, sweetheart,” he said hoarsely, “as I am in the same predicament.”
They both moaned. He lifted his head and repositioned his lips on hers. The tip of his tongue sought entry, and she gladly opened to him. An intimate duel ensued, fueling the fire building between them.
“Oh, Lily, I love your bed! It’s sick!” The loud shriek was vicious in its untimely interruption.
Aidan stilled. Groaning, he pushed himself upright, his movement sluggish and reluctant. His gaze embraced the gorgeous woman, still spread out on the bed, one arm flung above her head, her chest heaving in rapid movement.
She was breathless and undone. Because of him.
His plan had been to keep his physical distance from her for a while. To get to know her a bit better — build a relationship — before becoming intimate.  He raked his hand across his face. It was going to be harder than he’d anticipated.
Tearing his eyes from the alluring image, he focused on his daughter.
Nicole Ann Nielsen believes in romance, in love, and everyone deserves a happy ever after.
And that is what she writes — Contemporary Romance.
Working as a web developer and running her own company, one morning, having had enough of code, she opened a word document, and finally, finally, let the ideas bouncing around her head out.
In her own words: “The words flowed, the characters talked, the scenes developed, and a story formed. It was magical.”
Nicole lives in scenic Cape Town, South Africa, and shares her space with her husband, two dogs, and a lone cat, her son and daughter having long flown the parental coop.
She is an avid reader, enjoys Pilates, inhales coffee, and loves dreaming about her next novel.

We ate, we laughed, we danced, and I fell.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go to plan, and we parted ways.

Two years later, our eyes meet across a room again.
Only this time I was on a date with another man.
He went crazy in a jealous fit.

But the man I met then is different now.
He’s colder, harder, and officially one of the most powerful men in Italy.
Dare I say it, even more enticing.

I was so lonely I looked for his face in crowded places.
I didn’t have anything figured out, let alone my feelings.
I was stuck between two tall, dangerous, and handsome men – times two.

The other taught me how live.

Excerpt

This was why I always ran away from everything when he showed up. We couldn’t be in the same room without one of us being crushed under the pressure.
She whispered, “Don’t freak out.”
Hunter swatted her away with a rude hand gesture, taking her place in front me, blocking out most of the room in my vision.
“Maddison is just being overly dramatic. Relax. Hey… hey, look at me.”
I turned, looking into Hunter’s deep, dark eyes that were engulfing me. His hand was on my hip, pulling me into him and making the whole room disappear with one kiss—one simple kiss. His soft lips pressed against mine for only a minute before he pulled away, while his hand still cradled my cheek.
I closed my eyes, moved my face closer into his palm, and took a deep breath, as he said to me, “Be brave, Layla.”
Hunter leaned against the railing, pulling me into him again. I looked up, trying to look anywhere else, but I saw Caden’s arms wrap around Oliver, squeezing him. It was like he hadn’t even seen his best friend in a while. I wondered if I wasn’t the only one that Oliver had ghosted.
Jade trailed behind him in a dress that showed the world she was proud of her sexuality and not scared of it—a floral print, short, tight number, paired with heels. Her body still hid the secret of being a mom. The teal ends of her hair still enacted. Her hand dropped to her side like their hug stole away her favorite accessory: Oliver’s hand on her. I looked away to roll my eyes, not one insecurity to focus on.
I sipped the rest of my drink, putting the empty glass down on the table next to me. Without permission, my eyes stole another look at Oliver… except, this time, he was headed straight towards me.
I could have jumped out of my skin with all the anxiety and nerves pounding through my veins, but Hunter’s arm around me kept me still. Too bad he couldn’t provide oxygen with his stability.
“Layla…” was all I heard his voice say.
Hunter pushed his chin up in a silent acknowledgment of his presence.
“Still into being second best, huh?” Oliver growled at him.
Hunter stood up straighter; his face was casually morphing into pissed off. He leaned into Oliver’s space, just to rub Oliver wrong the same wrong way. “I fucked your baby mom in college and now Layla, bro. Who’s second?”
He was pleased with himself, leaning back again, smirking wildly in his triumph.
I excused myself promptly, feeling too overwhelmed. Too many feelings I kept locked up were flooding back. “I’m gonna get another drink.”
Oliver followed me, keeping up with the biggest strides I could take in the ridiculous heels I had chosen to wear.
“Are you just gonna run away every time I’m in the room?”
Infuriated by all the words he let leave his mouth, I spun around on my heel. “Yes, Oliver, I am. Why do you care?” I cursed myself for the lack of gusto in my jab.
